Welcome Message (SGCR)

Welcome to
ACAR SGCR-WIRES 2027!

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 14th Asian Congress of Abdominal Radiology (ACAR) 2027, held in conjunction with the 35th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Singapore Congress of Radiology and the 17th Workshops in Interventional Radiology Education Singapore (SGCR-WIRES), from 19 to 22 August 2027.

Our theme, “Inspiring Excellence in Radiology: Where Innovation Meets Purpose”, speaks to two priorities: raising standards in our practice, and nurturing the next generation of radiologists and trainees. As technology accelerates, radiology must continue to sit at the intersection of innovation and real-world clinical impact—turning new capabilities into better care for patients.

ACAR 2027 will bring together distinguished faculty from across Asia and around the world. The Scientific Committee has curated a programme spanning core abdominal radiology principles through to emerging advances in artificial intelligence and state-of-the-art imaging techniques.

WIRES 2027, led by Dr Amos Tan, will feature internationally recognised interventional radiology specialists. The programme emphasises practical techniques, interactive case-based learning, and hands-on workshops—equipping participants with skills they can apply directly in their daily practice.

While the congress will spotlight abdominal radiology—with dedicated sessions across organ systems—we will also offer strong scientific content across a broad range of subspecialties.

  • WIRES (Interventional Radiology)

  • Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Imaging

  • Gastrointestinal (Hollow Organ) and Peritoneal Imaging

  • Genitourinary Imaging

  • Abdominal Oncologic Imaging

  • Musculoskeletal Radiology

  • Cardiac and Thoracic Imaging

  • Nuclear Medicine

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Radiography

  • Nursing

Globally, cancers of the GI tract are estimated to account for about 26% of all cancer incidence and about 35% of all cancer-related deaths. In absolute terms, that was estimated at 4.8 million new cases and 3.4 million deaths in 2018. A more recent global analysis found 5.26 million incident GI cancer cases and 3.70 million GI cancer deaths in 2021, which is broadly consistent with the same pattern: roughly one in four cancer cases and about one in three cancer deaths worldwide.

These sobering figures reinforce the vital role abdominal radiology will continue to play—from early detection and accurate staging to treatment planning and response assessment. Our Scientific Committee is dedicated to delivering a programme that both challenges and energises experienced abdominal radiologists, while providing residents and trainees with a strong, practical foundation as they begin their journey in abdominal imaging. I encourage you to participate fully: ask questions, share your experience, and forge new friendships and collaborations to strengthen our Asian abdominal radiology community.

Beyond the scientific sessions, our industry exhibition and trade show will showcase the latest advances in imaging equipment and software, interventional radiology devices, and cutting-edge AI applications from our global partners.

We warmly invite radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, clinicians, technologists, nurses, students, and allied health professionals to join us in Singapore for learning, exchange, and connection. We also hope you will take time to enjoy Singapore’s vibrant blend of culture, cuisine, and hospitality.

Yours Sincerely,

Dr Low Hsien Min
